Nepal and the Netherlands established diplomatic ties on April 2, 1960. The Netherlands was the 22nd country to develop bilateral ties with Nepal. The Embassy of Nepal in Belgium concurrently accredits to the Netherlands, while the Netherlands’ Embassy in New Delhi is accredited to Nepal. Additionally, the Netherlands maintains an honorary consulate in Kathmandu, facilitating diplomatic engagements and services.

At the multilateral level, Nepal and the Netherlands are both part of the UN. Nepal and the Netherlands have cooperated in the development sectors since 1976. Currently, the Netherlands’ support to Nepal is primarily channeled through the United Nations and the European Union.

Nepal and the Netherlands have also enjoyed strong cultural exchanges. Organizations such as the Nepal-Netherlands Friendship Association (NNFA) and various Dutch NGOs have played an active role in fostering people-to-people relationships. The presence of a Nepali diaspora in the Netherlands continues to serve as a bridge between the two nations.
