Nepal Extends Felicitations on 28th Anniversary of BIMSTEC

"BIMSTEC's role in fostering robust regional diplomacy, deeper integration, and meaningful partnerships among Member States has become even more pronounced," PM Oli said.

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister K. P. Sharma Oli and Foreign Minister Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba have extended separate messages of warm felicitations and best wishes to the governments and peoples of the BIMSTEC Member States on the occasion of the 28th anniversary of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC).

In his message, Prime Minister Oli commended BIMSTEC’s pivotal role in bridging South and Southeast Asia for deeper regional integration and fostering solidarity among Member States.

“As we are facing common challenges such as climate catastrophe, natural disasters, geopolitical uncertainty, economic and digital inequalities, and transnational organized crimes, BIMSTEC’s role in fostering robust regional diplomacy, deeper integration, and meaningful partnerships among Member States has become even more pronounced,” Prime Minister Oli said.

Highlighting the need for more effective implementation of existing agreements, the Prime Minister underscored the significance of upholding the principles and objectives enshrined in the BIMSTEC Charter to realize the shared vision of a prosperous, resilient, and open Bay of Bengal region, as outlined in the Bangkok Vision 2030. He also reaffirmed Nepal’s continued commitment to advancing the BIMSTEC process, particularly through closer cooperation in priority sectors, including People-to-People Contact, where Nepal serves as the Lead Country.

In a separate message, Foreign Minister Dr. Deuba mentioned that strong political commitment, the growing institutional development of BIMSTEC, and deepening collaboration among Member States have created new opportunities for stability, integration, and prosperity in the region.

“It is important to build broader political consensus and ensure that the benefits of development and democracy reach grassroots communities. Only then can we transform BIMSTEC into a more effective and people-centric regional forum,” she said.

Indramani Pandey, Secretary General of BIMSTEC, also extended his warm wishes on the occasion of 28th anniversary of BIMSTEC.
