Nepal Pavilion to Open by End of June at Osaka Expo – Ambassador Subedi

Ambassador Subedi confirms that final preparations are underway and that nearly all payments to the Japanese construction company have been completed.

KATHMANDU: Nepal’s pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka-Kansai, the only overseas pavilion yet to open since the Expo’s launch two months ago, is expected to open by the end of June or early July, according to Durga Bahadur Subedi, Nepal’s Ambassador to Japan.

In an exclusive interview with Sankei Shimbun on June 14, Ambassador Subedi confirmed that final preparations are underway and that nearly all payments to the Japanese construction company have been completed. Construction had previously stalled due to financial difficulties faced by the Nepalese management company and delays in starting the project.

Ambassador Subedi explained that a new memorandum of understanding was signed with the management firm, resolving previous issues and facilitating the resumption of interior construction, which is scheduled to restart on the night of June 16.

Although Nepal missed its originally scheduled National Day event on May 31, Ambassador Subedi announced plans to celebrate a special “Nepal Day” at the Expo on July 28 instead.

“Nepal may be a small country, but it is rich in culture and nature. Ours may be the last pavilion to open, but we are aiming for it to be one of the best,” he said.
