Kathmandu: Nepal continued its winning streak in the ACC U-16 East Zone Cup Cricket Tournament, claiming a dominant nine-wicket victory over Japan in today’s match at Kolej Tuanku Jaafar Oval in Malaysia.
Japan, after winning the toss and electing to bat first, was bowled out for 80 runs in 34.3 overs. Nepal chased down the target with ease, reaching 81 runs in just 14.2 overs at the loss of only one wicket.
Captain Charlie Harahinze was the top scorer for Japan with 36 runs, followed by Gabby Harahinze with 13 runs. For Nepal, Shubham Khanal delivered an exceptional bowling performance, taking five wickets. Abhay Yadav claimed two, while Sushil Bahadur Rawal and captain Bipin Prasad Sharma took one wicket each.
Earlier, Nepal defeated Singapore by six wickets in their opening match. With two straight wins, Nepal now leads Group ‘A’ with four points.
The tournament features 10 teams divided into two groups. Group ‘A’ includes Nepal, Singapore, Indonesia, Bhutan, and Japan, while Group ‘B’ comprises host Malaysia, Hong Kong, the Maldives, Thailand, and Myanmar.
Nepal, the reigning champion of all three previous editions of the tournament, will next face Indonesia on June 29 and Bhutan on July 1.
