Nepali Mela Held in Scotland to Promote Nepal’s Culture and Heritage

Shirley-Anne Somerville MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Social Justice of the Scottish Government, attended the event as Chief Guest.

Kathmandu: The Embassy of Nepal in London, in collaboration with NRNA Scotland and over two dozen community-based organizations, organized the Nepali Mela in Edinburgh on June 23 , 2025.

Shirley-Anne Somerville MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Social Justice of the Scottish Government, attended the event as Chief Guest. The Mela began with a vibrant parade from the Scottish Monument to the Ross Bandstand in Princes Street Gardens.

Organized to promote Nepal, the Mela showcased the country’s rich socio-cultural heritage, traditional cuisine, and cultural performances. It also served as a platform for building connections between the Nepali community and people from various backgrounds.

More than 3,000 attendees, including members of the Nepali diaspora from across the UK, scientists from the Royal Botanical Gardens, tourists, businesspersons, artists, students, and media professionals, joined the event. This was the first Nepali Mela ever organized by the Embassy in Scotland.
