PM Oli Distributes Awards to Medal-Winning Athletes in International Competitions

Kathmandu: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli presented awards and honors to Nepali athletes, coaches, and managers who won medals in various international competitions, at a special ceremony held at the Prime Minister’s Residence in Baluwatar.

The event was organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports to recognize outstanding achievements in sports. Bijay Sinjali, who won a bronze medal at the 3rd Taolu World Cup held in Japan on October 23-28, 2024, organized by the Japan Wushu Taijiquan Federation, was awarded a cash prize of Rs 6.5 million along with a certificate.

Similarly, Manmati Bista received a cash prize of Rs 150,000 for winning a bronze medal at the 6th Asian Kabaddi Championship (Women) held in Iran from March 4-9, 2025. Arjun Nepali was awarded Rs 300,000 for securing a silver medal at the KAVA U-20 Men’s Volleyball Championship held in Sri Lanka from November 5-11, 2024, hosted by the Sri Lanka Volleyball Association.

The cash prizes and honors were granted based on a decision of the Council of Ministers on June 23, in accordance with the National Sports Development Regulations, 2079 BS.

Prime Minister Oli also extended congratulations to Bipin Prasad Sharma and his team, who clinched the title by defeating Singapore in the ACC U-16 East Zone Cup Cricket Tournament held in Malaysia from June 22-July 5, 2025.

Speaking at the event, Prime Minister Oli emphasized the government’s commitment to the development of sports in Nepal. “We are prioritizing the growth of the sports sector. While we may not achieve everything at once, success will come with consistent effort and professionalism,” he said. 

He further said, “For a long time, we lacked organized development in sports. But now, the government is giving it high priority, and our players are advancing professionally. I thank and congratulate all the athletes, coaches, and managers for uplifting the nation’s identity and pride.”

Minister for Youth and Sports Teju Lal Chaudhary also addressed the program, highlighting that the government has nearly doubled the sports budget for the upcoming fiscal year. He added that the construction of the Kirtipur Cricket Ground is nearing completion, which is a promising step forward for Nepali sports.
