Young Journalists Trained to Tackle Disinformation and Promote Inclusive Journalism

Kathmandu: Media Action Nepal has successfully conducted a three-day residential training workshop aimed at strengthening the capacity of young journalists to counter disinformation, enhance media literacy, and promote inclusive journalism.

Held from July 23 to 25 in Godawari, the workshop was part of the project “Strengthening Young Journalists to Counter Misinformation and Promote Inclusive Media in Nepal,” supported by the Czech Republic.

Twenty early-career journalists from across Nepal, including 12 women, participated in the interactive training led by renowned media expert Laxman Datt Pant, Founding Chairperson of Media Action Nepal. He was joined by veteran journalists Rajan Pokhrel, Namrata Sharma, and Shalik Subedi.

The workshop covered key topics including information integrity, gender-sensitive reporting, media ethics, conflict-sensitive journalism, and digital verification techniques. Participants engaged in group activities, debates, and practical exercises, with a strong focus on ethical and inclusive storytelling.

The event concluded with reflections from participants and a closing session led by Chairperson Priyanka Jha and lead trainer Pant, who emphasized ongoing mentorship and support. Certificates were awarded to participants in recognition of their commitment to responsible journalism.
