Mango Symposium to Be Held in Madhesh Province to Promote Region as National Mango Hub

Kathmandu: A one-day Mango Symposium is set to take place on August 7, 2025, in Madhesh Province, bringing together farmers, researchers, entrepreneurs, processors, marketers, policymakers, financial institutions, and other key stakeholders. The event aims to chart a path toward establishing Madhesh as a nationally recognized mango hub.

Madhesh Province accounts for more than half of Nepal’s total mango production, with over 258,000 metric tonnes harvested in 2021/22. Despite this, investment and policy support have not fully matched the sector’s potential. The symposium will seek formal commitments from government bodies to strengthen the mango value chain through targeted policies, technical support, and financial mechanisms.

The program will feature presentations, exhibitions, and interactive discussions on climate-resilient mango farming, value addition, entrepreneurship, and market access. It will also foster provincial ownership and multi-stakeholder collaboration, with plans to draft actionable recommendations and sign Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) between central and provincial governments and the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD).

The symposium is being jointly organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development (MoALD), the Ministry of Land Management, Agriculture and Cooperatives (MoLMAC) of Madhesh Province, ICIMOD, FAO Nepal, CDAFN, R&D Innovative Solution Pvt. Ltd., and the Nepal Horticulture Society (NHS).
