Vietnamese Vice President Xuan Calls on President Paudel

Kathmandu: Vice President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Vo Thi Anh Xuan, paid a courtesy call on President of Nepal, Ramchandra Paudel, at the Office of the President on Monday, August 25.

During the meeting, President Poudel expressed Nepal’s interest in intensifying bilateral engagement. “The Nepal government is committed to expanding cooperation with Vietnam, particularly in sectors like agriculture, tourism, manufacturing, and hydropower, as part of our broader economic and social transformation,” President Poudel’s Press Advisor Kiran Pokharel quoted him as saying.

President Poudel praised Vietnam’s remarkable economic growth, describing it as one of the most dynamic economies in the world. Highlighting cultural and religious linkages, he noted that Buddhism serves as a strong bridge between the peoples of the two nations. He added that it was a matter of joy to see Lumbini, the birthplace of the Buddha, regarded as a sacred destination for Vietnamese visitors.

Vice President Xuan, in response, emphasized the need to build a framework for comprehensive relations between Nepal and Vietnam before 2030. She linked this vision with Nepal’s goal of achieving middle-income status by 2030 and Vietnam’s aspiration to become a high-income country by 2045.

She further stressed cooperation in the fields of culture, sports, and tourism, while appreciating Nepal’s peace-promoting initiatives on the international stage and its strong commitment to addressing climate change.
