Kathmandu: Preparations have been completed for Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s visit to China to participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit 2025 and the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the Victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.
PM Oli will visit the People’s Republic of China from 30 August to 3 September at the cordial invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a press release on Wednesday.
Nepal’s high-level participation in the SCO is expected to provide an important opportunity to further deepen Nepal-China relations and enhance Nepal’s proactive role in multilateral cooperation.
On Thursday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs briefed members of the delegation at the Prime Minister’s residence in the presence of PM Oli. Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai and Chief of Protocol Kumarraj Kharel shared details of the programme and managerial aspects of the visit.
Prime Minister Oli is scheduled to inform the House of Representatives (HoR) about the visit on Friday, according to the Prime Minister’s Secretariat.
During the visit, PM Oli will hold bilateral meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and other heads of state and government attending the Summit.
He will depart for Tianjin City on Saturday morning and is scheduled to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping the same evening. Prime Minister Oli will address the SCO Summit in Tianjin on 1 September.
On 2 September, the Prime Minister will meet Han Zheng, Vice President of the People’s Republic of China, in Beijing. He will return home on 3 September.
The Prime Minister will be accompanied by his spouse, Radhika Shakya. His entourage will include Raghuji Pant, Minister for Education, Science and Technology; Badri Prasad Pandey, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation; Purna Bahadur Khadka, Member of Parliament; Dr. Yuba Raj Khatiwada, Economic and Development Advisor to the Prime Minister; Chhabilal Bishwakarma, Member of Parliament; along with other high-ranking government officials.
