PM Oli Embarks on China Visit for SCO Summit and 80th Anniversary of the Victory in the Chinese People’s War

PM Oli shared a post on X: "Departing to attend the SCO Summit and the 80th anniversary of the victory over Fascism in WWII. I will make the most of this opportunity to engage with global leaders for our country's benefit."

Kathmandu: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli embarked on a visit to China to participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit 2025 and the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the Victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.

Before departing for Tianjin City in China, PM Oli shared a post on X: “Departing to attend the SCO Summit and the 80th anniversary of the victory over Fascism in WWII. I will make the most of this opportunity to engage with global leaders for our country’s benefit.”

PM Oli will visit the People’s Republic of China from 30 August to 3 September at the cordial invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a press release.

During the visit, PM Oli will hold bilateral meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and other heads of state and government attending the Summit.

Nepal’s high-level participation in the SCO is expected to provide an important opportunity to further deepen Nepal-China relations and enhance Nepal’s proactive role in multilateral cooperation, the Foreign Ministry stated.

Prime Minister Oli informed the House of Representatives (HoR) about his visit to China on Friday. He will address the SCO Summit in Tianjin on 1 September. Nepal is a dialogue partner of the SCO.

On 2 September, the Prime Minister will meet Han Zheng, Vice President of China, in Beijing. He will return home on 3 September.

PM Oli is accompanied by his spouse, Radhika Shakya. His entourage includes Raghuji Pant, Minister for Education, Science and Technology; Badri Prasad Pandey, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation; Purna Bahadur Khadka, Member of Parliament; Dr. Yuba Raj Khatiwada, Economic and Development Advisor to the Prime Minister; Chhabilal Bishwakarma, Member of Parliament; along with other high-ranking government officials.
