Kathmandu: The Interim Prime Minister Sushila Karki has appointed three ministers who officially took the oath of office and secrecy at a special ceremony held at the President’s residence in Sheetal Niwas on September 15.
President Ramchandra Paudel administered the oath to Rameshwor Khanal, Kulman Ghising, and Om Prakash Aryal as per the recommendation of Prime Minister Karki, made on September 14.
Khanal has been appointed as Finance Minister, Ghising as Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure and Transport, and Urban Development, and Aryal has taken charge as Minister for Home Affairs, Law, and Parliamentary Affairs. PM Karki will look after the remaining ministries.
Khanal, a former finance secretary, is known for his work in economic reform and good governance. Ghising, the former executive director of the Nepal Electricity Authority, had been actively voicing public concerns after leaving the post. Advocate Aryal, widely recognised for his anti-corruption stance, came to prominence after filing a petition at the Supreme Court questioning the qualification of then-CIAA chief Lokman Singh Karki.
The swearing-in ceremony was attended by Vice President Ramsahay Prasad Yadav, PM Karki, Chief Justice Prakashman Singh Raut, National Assembly Chairman Narayan Prasad Dahal, former Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai, chiefs of constitutional and security bodies, and senior government officials. All three ministers are scheduled to assume office in Singha Durbar today.
Former Chief Justice Sushila Karki was appointed Prime Minister of the interim government in the background of the Gen-Z protest on September 12.
