Kathmandu: Shafiqur Rahman, Bangladesh Ambassador to Nepal, called for regional collaboration to combat the climate crisis during his closing remarks at the opening ceremony of the “International Climate Camp 2025: Symposium on Climate Change in South Asia,” held at Tribhuvan University.
The event saw the presence of several guests including Prof. Dr. Ainun Nishat, Vice Chancellor of BRAC University, along with secretaries of the Economic Relations Division of Bangladesh, Head of the Department of Environmental Science, Registrar and Rector of Tribhuvan University, the representatives from UNDP, WaterAid Nepal, ICIMOD, the Ministry of Environment, and other key organizations from both Bangladesh and Nepal.
In his closing remarks, Ambassador Rahman focused on the negative impacts of climate change in South Asia and underlined the need for regional cooperation to address the challenges. He called for shared and inclusive climate actions by the regional countries facing the effects, highlighting collaboration between Bangladesh and Nepal in areas such as exchange of knowledge and research, cooperation in hydropower, and clean energy.
Moreover, Rahman also expressed the readiness of Bangladesh to further collaborate with Nepal and other countries of the region on combating the climate change issue and reiterated Bangladesh’s commitment to be a partner in global climate leadership.
Concluding his speech, Rahman urged the young delegates in the camp to carry forward the spirit of this camp to advocate, campaign, and collaborate on the issues and cooperate in implementing shared action plans among countries, communities, and institutions.
The International Climate Camp 2025 is being held from July 4 to 8 across Nepal, bringing together over 100 participants from Bangladesh and Nepal. The camp serves as a place for youth, climate professionals, and researchers to engage in dialogue and shape future climate adaptation and mitigation strategies for the region.
