KATHMANDU: Virginie Corteval, Ambassador of France to Nepal, visited Annapurna Base Camp to pay tribute to legendary mountaineers Maurice Herzog, Louis Lachenal, and Walung Sonam Sherpa, as part of the Annapurna 75 Years celebration.
Statues were unveiled in their honor to commemorate their historic 1950 ascent of Annapurna I, the first 8,000-meter peak ever summited.
Ambassador Corteval also met Purnima Shrestha, Goodwill Ambassador for #Annapurna75Years, and expressed appreciation for her contributions to mountaineering and outreach.
Chandra Prasad Dhakal, President of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FNCCI), and Nima Nuru Sherpa, Chair of the Nepal Mountaineering Association, were also present at the commemorative event.
