Chinese Language Training for Nepal’s Tourism Professionals Begins

Minister Pandey expressed confidence that the training will help boost Nepal’s tourism by strengthening communication with Chinese visitors.

KATHMANDU: The seventh batch of Chinese language training for Nepal’s tourism professionals officially began on June 6, under a joint initiative of the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) and the Chinese Embassy in Nepal. The training was inaugurated by Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Minister Badri Prasad Pandey at the board’s auditorium in Kathmandu.

Minister Pandey expressed confidence that the training will help boost Nepal’s tourism by strengthening communication with Chinese visitors. “Language acts as a bridge in Nepal-China relations,” he said, adding that linguistic skills enhance competence, promote cultural understanding, and open doors for self-employment.

Addressing the event, Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Chen Song said the training marks the 75th anniversary of Nepal-China diplomatic relations. He emphasized the importance of language in improving the tourism experience, stating that Chinese tourists value cultural connection and communication in their language.

Ambassador Song also highlighted the global potential of the Chinese tourism market, calling language training a “golden opportunity” for Nepal to benefit.

Acting CEO of NTB Hikmat Singh Ayer called the program an investment in people-to-people ties and service quality. “This training strengthens the bridge between Nepal and China,” he said.

So far, 240 professionals have been trained through six previous batches. The program was launched following a bilateral agreement reached during former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s visit to China, aimed at enhancing cooperation in tourism and language skills.
