Nepal and Sri Lanka established diplomatic relations on July 1, 1957, marking the beginning of a warm and cooperative partnership characterized by goodwill, mutual respect, and shared values. Over the decades, both countries have strengthened their ties through high-level visits, numerous bilateral agreements in areas such as trade, air services, culture, and education, and the establishment of embassies in each other’s capitals.

As founding members of SAARC and BIMSTEC, Nepal and Sri Lanka collaborate closely on regional and international issues, maintaining similar positions in global forums like the UN and NAM. The relationship continues to evolve, with recent agreements enhancing connectivity and cooperation in tourism, culture, and education.
