India Hands Over Modular Bridge to Nepal in Ilam District

Kathmandu: The Government of India has handed over a 48.8-meter span modular bridge over Puwa Khola in Ilam district, Koshi Province, in a joint ceremony attended by the Indian Ambassador to Nepal, Naveen Srivastava, and Nepal’s Minister of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Devendra Dahal.

The bridge is part of India’s grant support following the devastating floods of September 2024, which damaged critical road infrastructure across Nepal. Under this initiative, India committed 10 prefabricated steel bridges to Nepal to help restore connectivity and strengthen resilience in flood-affected regions.

The newly installed bridge over Puwa Khola is one of these 10 bridges. According to officials, three other bridges have already been completed in different parts of Nepal, significantly improving local connectivity and easing travel for communities cut off by last year’s floods.

Both sides expressed confidence that such projects will not only restore essential infrastructure but also reinforce India–Nepal cooperation in disaster response and reconstruction.
