EU Welcomes Appointment of Nepal’s First Woman Prime Minister

"EU welcomes the appointment of the first woman PM in Nepal," Ambassador Lorenzo shares.

Kathmandu: The European Union (EU) has welcomed the appointment of Sushila Karki as Nepal’s first woman Prime Minister.

In a released statement, EU Ambassador to Nepal, Veronique Lorenzo, said, “EU welcomes the appointment of the first woman PM in Nepal and looks forward to supporting the efforts of the interim administration to chart a transition path that will ensure Nepal remains on its democratic course.”

Ambassador Lorenzo’s remarks highlight the EU’s continued commitment to democratic values in Nepal and its readiness to extend support as the country undergoes a critical political transition.

Karki, a former Chief Justice, assumed office as head of the interim government following youth-led protests that reshaped the political landscape. Her appointment is widely seen as a step toward restoring stability and preparing the ground for fresh elections.
