Kathmandu: To enhance the trekking experience and improve safety for tourists in the Manaslu Conservation Area of northern Gorkha, the Manaslu Conservation Area Project (MCAP) has installed new signposts and marking poles along the trekking routes.
According to Santosh Sherchan, Chief of MCAP, a total of 53 new installations were completed during the fiscal year 2024/25, including 35 signposts and 18 marking poles. These are aimed at helping trekkers navigate the trails more easily, especially in remote areas.
The marking poles have been added along the route from Larke Bazaar to Bhimthang in the Nubri Valley, increasing the total number of poles on this stretch from 108 to 124.
In addition, 19 new signposts were installed along the route to Chum Valley (including the trail to Ganesh Himal), 14 in Nubri Valley, and two in Sirdibas. These signposts provide useful information such as current location, altitude, estimated time to the next stop, and potential wildlife sightings.
“These signposts help tourists know exactly where they are, how long it might take to reach the next destination, and what kind of wildlife they might encounter,” said Sherchan. “The marking poles are especially useful during snowfall when the trail gets buried under snow.”
MCAP also plans to install signposts and marking poles at 25 additional locations in the current fiscal year 2025/26.
