Kathmandu: After a one and half month of hiatus, Dr. Biswo Nath Poudel has been appointed as the 18th Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB). On May 20, the Cabinet meeting decided to appoint Dr. Poudel as the new head of NRB.
He was selected from a list of three candidates recommended by a committee led by Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel. Dr. Poudel, who holds a PhD in Agricultural and Resource Economics from the University of California, USA, has held roles at the World Bank and ILO, with his further association with Kathmandu University (KU).
After assuming the post, Dr. Poudel said that his top priority is getting Nepal off the FATF grey list, while also boosting confidence in the capital market, ensuring stronger supervision of banks, and working on resolving emerging problems in various banks and financial institutions.
