Ambassador Thompson Visits the United States’ Commitment to Preserving Nepal’s Heritage

Dean Thompson visits the United States’ ongoing commitment to preserving Nepal’s rich cultural heritage through the U.S. Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation in Mustang.

Kathmandu: Ambassador Dean Thompson visited Mustang this week to highlight the United States’ ongoing commitment to preserving Nepal’s rich cultural heritage through the U.S. Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP).

According to the US Embassy in Kathmandu, these projects showcase the strength of the 78-year partnership between the United States and Nepal by promoting sustainable tourism, economic growth, and cultural preservation, while also enhancing diplomatic relations and creating opportunities for local and U.S. businesses in tourism, hospitality, and education.

During their visit, Ambassador Thompson, Public Affairs Chief Mike Harker, and other Embassy team members toured AFCP-supported heritage sites, including Dzong Monastery, Gonpa Gang Monastery, and Lo Gekar Monastery. They also met with local communities and project teams and observed the vibrant Tiji Festival—a living celebration of Nepal’s vibrant traditions.
