Kathmandu: Vice President Ramsahay Prasad Yadav received a courtesy call from Dean R. Thompson, Ambassador of the United States of America to Nepal, at the Vice President’s Office in Lainchaur.
During the meeting, the two sides exchanged greetings and held discussions on various aspects of Nepal-U.S. relations, including bilateral cooperation, diplomatic partnership, and future prospects. Vice President Yadav said that since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1947, Nepal and the U.S. have enjoyed a cordial and mutually respectful relationship.
“Democracy, human rights, and freedom are shared values that have further strengthened our partnership,” he stated, expressing appreciation for the continuous development assistance provided by the U.S. government since 1951. He commended the U.S. contribution to Nepal’s economic growth, social development, and democratic consolidation.
According to a statement released by the Secretariat of the Vice President, Yadav expressed optimism that the newly established Consulates General in San Francisco and Dallas would enhance consular services for the Nepali diaspora. He also reaffirmed Nepal’s commitment to deepen cooperation with the U.S. in areas such as trade, technology, and investment.
Highlighting Nepal’s upcoming graduation from the category of least developed countries (LDCs) by 2026, the Vice President emphasized the importance of continued and long-term support from development partners like the United States to ensure a smooth transition.
He welcomed the ongoing progress of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) projects and USAID initiatives, and stressed the need for joint efforts on global challenges like climate change through platforms such as the Sagarmatha Sambad. He described the Nepal-U.S. partnership as a model of strong cooperation, especially in advancing human welfare.
Ambassador Thompson reiterated the U.S. commitment to supporting Nepal’s development, noting that MCC, USAID, and other initiatives are proceeding positively. He also highlighted the vibrant role of the Nepali community in the United States and expressed confidence that Nepal and the U.S. can achieve meaningful outcomes through continued collaboration.
