Kathmandu: Russian House, together with Nepal-Russia Literary Society (NRLS), celebrated the 21th anniversary of the birth of Nepal’s Adikavi Bhanubhakta Acharya and the 133rd anniversary of the birth of the Russian poet Vladimir Mayakovsky on July 17.
The program was led by the chief guest – Ram Prasad Panta, editor of Dayitwa Wangmaya Pratisthan. Participants included Anastasia Khokhlova, Director of the Russian House; Vishnu Bahadur Singh, President of NRLS; Chandra Kanta Acharya, Vice‑President of NRLS; and Ram Bindu Shrestha, General Secretary of NRLS. The evening brought together about 50 writers, literati, and poetry lovers.
The program opened with presentations on the lives and works of Bhanubhakta Acharya and Vladimir Mayakovsky, followed by poetic tributes – around 12 poems in Nepali and Russian. Poems were read by Kiran Darnal, Chaitanya Prakash Pradhan, Jetha Bairagi, Khem Koirala Bandhu, Krishna Prasad Jastagare, Laxmi Gaudel, Shiva Acharya, Jivan Basnet, Shakuntala Joshi, Vishnu Bahadur Singh, and Anastasia Khokhlova.
Ram Prasad Panta emphasized the role of literature in uniting society, preserving cultural identity, and promoting human values. Anastasia Khokhlova noted the importance of literature as a bridge of friendship, cultural exchange, and mutual understanding between Nepal and Russia. Vishnu Bahadur Singh spoke about the outstanding contributions of both poets to the development of public consciousness. Chandra Kanta Acharya pointed out similarities in the poets’ works, stressing that great literature always reflects the feelings, aspirations, and experiences of society. Ram Bindu Shrestha thanked all participants and highlighted the importance of continuing such literary programs.
The evening concluded with substantive literary discussions, cultural exchange, and a renewed awareness that poetry can unite people across borders.
