Kathmandu: The second edition of ‘Mero Mahinawari Hariyo’ (Green Menstruation) was held on Friday in Kathmandu, creating a community-driven space for open conversations on menstruation, dignity, and environmental responsibility.
The half-day event was jointly organized by Eco Sathi Nepal, Period Kaa Kura Podcast, and Untold Period Stories, aiming to raise awareness about sustainable menstrual health practices and encourage intersectional community dialogue. Over 200 participants, including activists, healthcare professionals, students, and environmental enthusiasts, took part in the event.

The program featured a womb healing session, live sanitary pad making workshops, exhibitions of sustainable menstrual products, poetry, art, storytelling, and a live podcast recording. Gynecologist Dr. Kunsang Dolma Sherpa spoke on menstrual health and uterine care, while Pooja Bista and Pareen Limbu highlighted the political and environmental aspects of menstruation. Another session focused on eco-friendly menstrual products and accessibility, moderated by journalist Shristi Kafle.

The event also showcased women-led initiatives, creative performances, and adopted a ‘Bring Your Own Mug’ approach to minimize plastic waste. Organizers said the initiative seeks to make sustainable menstrual health accessible to all and plans to expand similar activities outside the Kathmandu valley in the future.
