Kathmandu: The Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) has held discussions with Minister for Foreign Affairs Balananda Sharma regarding preparations for its 12th General Convention and International Conference.
A delegation led by NRNA President Dr. Badri KC met Minister Sharma at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and apprised him of the progress made so far in organizing the upcoming convention and conference.
During the meeting, the NRNA delegation inquired about the status of forming the main organizing committee for the 12th General Convention. Minister Sharma informed the delegation that the Diaspora Division of the Ministry is currently working on the matter. As per existing provisions, the Government of Nepal forms a high-level organizing committee for the NRNA General Convention under the chairmanship of the Foreign Minister.
On the occasion, NRNA Vice President Dr. Hemraj Sharma said that preparations for the 12th General Convention particularly the first to be held after comprehensive unity within the Association are nearing completion.
He also emphasized the need for close coordination between the Ministry and the Association to further amend the draft bill prepared by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs aimed at revising and consolidating laws related to non-resident Nepalis. Both sides expressed readiness to collaborate on making necessary amendments to the legislation.
NRNA Treasurer Sujan Thapa and Chief Executive Officer Rajendra Kumar Raut were also present at the meeting.
