Prime Minister’s China Visit Has Added Momentum to Non-Aligned Foreign Policy: Lawmaker Dhakal

Kathmandu: Lawmaker Eknath Dhakal said that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s China visit has added momentum to Nepal’s non-aligned foreign policy. Speaking at the House of Representatives, Dhakal said it is regrettable that the Prime Minister, after demonstrating skillful and courageous diplomacy and completing a historic visit to China, is trying to create confusion by misleading the issue of the Global Security Initiative (GSI).

“Nepal has a declared policy of not joining any military alliance and at the present time, there is no question of joining the GSI. For Nepal, participating in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit means actively engaging in regional cooperation, supporting multilateral diplomacy, and strengthening relations with China,” he said.

He also added that the SCO Summit gave the Prime Minister the opportunity to clearly state to the President of China that “Lipulekh is Nepal’s territory,” which is a diplomatic achievement. “Therefore, the Prime Minister’s meetings, talks, and participation in various programs during his visit to China are in line with Nepal’s non-aligned foreign policy.

On the contrary, this visit has added dynamism to our non-aligned foreign policy and developed transformative international relations,” he said. “The days spent by Prime Minister Oli in Beijing and Tianjin can have far-reaching diplomatic implications for Nepal’s foreign affairs. The entire House should thank the Prime Minister.”
