Kathmandu: Nepal registered its first victory in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier, defeating Zimbabwe by six wickets at the Tribhuvan University (TU) Cricket Ground in Kirtipur on Friday.
Chasing a target of 130 runs set by Zimbabwe, Nepal reached the total in 19.3 overs, losing four wickets in the process.
Puja Mahato starred for Nepal with a half-century, scoring 52 runs off 50 balls, including four boundaries and two sixes. Captain Indu Barma contributed 22 runs, while Bindu Rawal added 15 and Sita Rana Magar scored 11.
For Zimbabwe, Josephine Nkomo claimed two wickets, while Christabel Chatonzwa and Nombelo Sibanda picked up one wicket each.
The win marks an important milestone for Nepal in the global qualifier as the team strengthens its campaign for a place in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.
