Kathmandu: The Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC) has extended its warm congratulations to Sheikh Joaan Bin Hamad Al Thani of Qatar on his election as President of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA). He was elected during the 46th OCA General Assembly held on Tuesday in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
With this election, Sheikh Joaan Bin Hamad Al Thani becomes the 22nd President to lead the Olympic Movement in Asia since the organization of the first-ever multi-sport Games in 1913. His leadership is expected to further strengthen unity, cooperation, and sports development across the continent.
The General Assembly was attended by representatives from all 45 Asian National Olympic Committees (NOCs) and was graced by the presence of H.E. Shavkat Mirziyoyev, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, underscoring the significance of the event.
Nepal was represented at the Assembly by NOC President Jeevan Ram Shrestha and Secretary General Rajiv Shrestha, who joined fellow Asian NOC leaders on this historic occasion.
The Nepal Olympic Committee has conveyed its sincere best wishes to Sheikh Joaan Bin Hamad Al Thani for a successful tenure and expressed its commitment to continued collaboration with the OCA in promoting Olympic values, unity, and the advancement of sports throughout Asia.
