Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier: Nepal out of Group Stage

Kathmandu: Nepal have been eliminated from the group stage of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier 2026 following a comprehensive 72-run defeat to Scotland in their final group match on Sunday.

The match, played at the TU Cricket Ground in Kirtipur, saw Nepal fail to chase a target of 141 runs, being bowled out for just 68 in 13.5 overs.

Roma Thapa remained unbeaten on 14 runs, while Bindu Rawal also scored 14. Captain Rubina Chhetri added 10 runs, but no other Nepali batter reached double figures.

For Scotland, Abtaha Maqsood led the bowling attack with three wickets. Katherine Fraser and captain Kathryn Bryce claimed two wickets each, while Rachel Slater and Olivia Bell took one apiece.

Earlier, Scotland batted first after losing the toss and were all out for 140 runs in their allotted 20 overs. Priyanaz Chatterji top-scored with 45 runs. Ailsa Lister contributed 22, Sarah Bryce made 18, Megan McColl scored 17, and Rachel Slater added 11.

Manisha Upadhyay was the pick of the Nepali bowlers, taking four wickets. Rubina Chhetri claimed three wickets, while Riya Sharma, Sita Ranamagar, and Kabita Joshi took one wicket each.

Nepal played four matches in the group stage of the Qualifier, securing one win and finishing with two points to place fourth in Group B. Scotland, with four points, progressed to the Super Six stage of the tournament.
