International Rafting and Kayaking Festival Begins in Trishuli River

Chitwan: The International Rafting and Kayaking Festival has begun on the Trishuli River, aiming to promote Nepal’s mountainous rivers as key destinations for adventure tourism.

The event includes the 24th Himalayan White Water Challenge 2026 and the 50th International Himalayan Rafting and Kayaking Festival. The three-day competition is jointly organized by the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) and the Nepal Association of Rafting Agencies (NARA), and will run until Thursday.

Rafting and kayaking athletes from Nepal and several other countries are participating in the festival, navigating the rapid currents and waves of the Trishuli River.

In this year’s festival, 51 paddlers competed in the first kayak sprint (300 meters), while 10 teams took part in the raft sprint (300 meters) event.

According to NARA Vice President and festival coordinator Sukra Lama, the Kayak Cross (300 meters) and the Raft Mandatory competition (10 kilometers) will be held on Wednesday.

Lama said that 32 athletes selected from the preliminary rounds will compete in the upcoming events.
