Kathmandu: The Government of Nepal and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have been playing a coordinating role on issues related to non-resident Nepalis, including providing support for organizing world conferences and international general conventions of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA).
Launched in 2003 with the slogan “Nepali for Nepalis,” the Non-Resident Nepali Campaign aims to unite Nepalis across the world. Over the years, the NRNA has worked to channel the knowledge, skills, capital, and technology of Nepalis living abroad toward Nepal’s social and economic development, becoming a trusted platform for Nepalis both at home and overseas.
Following organizational challenges after the 10th and 11th General Conventions, the Association addressed internal issues through dialogue, self-review, and cooperation. A historic unity was formally achieved on November 30, 2025, in the presence of Prime Minister Sushila Karki and representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, strengthening the Association’s unity and stability.
In this context, the 12th Non-Resident Nepali World Conference and Comprehensive International General Conference will be held in Kathmandu from March 14–16, 2026 under the slogan “Our Unity, Base for Prosperity.” A high-level organizing committee has been formed under the chairmanship of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, with the NRNA Secretariat serving as its secretariat.
Preparations for the conference are underway. The event will feature discussions on the Non-Resident Nepali Act, constitutional rights of non-resident Nepalis, joint investment, tourism, health, transfer of knowledge, skills and technology, as well as issues related to women, youth, and second-generation Nepalis. Government representatives, NRNA delegates from various countries, activists, and national and international dignitaries are expected to participate.
All non-resident Nepalis have been encouraged to participate actively in the conference. Media professionals have also been requested to extend support to ensure the success of the event.
