Kathmandu: The 13th Nepali Rastriya Poshak Diwas tatha Topi Diwas (National Dress and Hat Day) is being observed today with various programs organized by youth groups across the country.
Celebrated under the slogan “Nepali Topi: Our Identity,” the day has been marked by young people for the past 13 years to promote traditional Nepali attire such as daura suruwal, topi and gunyo choli as symbols of national identity. The initiative was launched in 2070 BS following the discontinuation of official celebrations, with youth taking the lead to revive and promote national dress.
Observed annually on January 1, National Dress Day is believed to have contributed to renewed interest in traditional attire. On the occasion, many people are sharing photographs of themselves wearing national dress on social media. Special events and gatherings have also been organized at various locations in the capital to mark the day.
