17-Year-Old Ramila Takes Over the Role of the Finnish Ambassador to Nepal for a Day

“I wish they could collect more stories of women with disabilities so that girls like me feel inspired,” mentioned Ramila, the Girl Ambassador

Kathmandu: A 17-year-old Ramila, a deaf girl and inclusion advocate from Sindhuli, took over the role of Petri Puhakka, the Finnish Ambassador to Nepal, for one day as part of the Girls Takeover campaign on October 29.

Throughout the day, Ramila engaged in learning sessions and meaningful discussions focused on inclusion, equality, and leadership.

“During my tenure as Ambassador, I am glad to learn about Finland’s best practices in law, regulation, and ensuring the rights of people with disabilities. I hope Nepal will soon learn from Finland and adopt similar approaches,” said Ramila, the Girl Ambassador of the Finland Embassy to Nepal. “I wish they could collect more stories of women with disabilities so that girls like me feel inspired.”

She met embassy staff to discuss inclusion in programmes, visited the European Union Delegation to Nepal to share ideas on making the Youth Sounding Board more accessible for young people with disabilities, especially deaf youth.

According to Plan International Nepal, Ramila also met a young girl, Pooja from Samana Group, campaigning to end child marriage, and was inspired by the United Nations Women’s storytelling work documenting the experiences of 1,000 women in Nepal.
