Kathmandu: The 19th edition of the India–Nepal joint military exercise `Surya Kiran´ commenced today in Pithoragarh, India, on November 25. The exercise, which will continue until 8 December 2025, aims to strengthen collaboration in Counter Terrorism (CT) operations and disaster management, two critical areas of shared regional concern.

Troops from the Indian Army and the Nepali Army will engage in a range of training activities designed to improve interoperability and operational synergy. The exercise will also focus on enhancing mutual understanding of each other’s military culture, doctrines, drills, procedures, and best practices.

Officials emphasized that ‘Surya Kiran’ stands as a testament to the deep-rooted ties of friendship, trust, and shared military heritage that exist between India and Nepal. Over the years, the exercise has played a pivotal role in fostering closer defence relations and improving joint operational capabilities.
