Patan (Lalitpur): A total of 31 Nepali scientists have been featured in the global ranking of top scientists prepared by Stanford University in collaboration with Elsevier, marking a proud achievement for Nepal’s scientific community.
According to Rabindra Dhakal, Secretary of the Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST), the annual list identifies scientists worldwide with the greatest research influence, based on citations and published works. “This recognition highlights the global impact of Nepali researchers in advancing innovation and sustainability,” he said.
Among those included, seven scientists are from Tribhuvan University (TU), while two each represent the Nepal Health Research Council (NHRC), BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS), and the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD).
The list features notable names such as Ajaya Bhattarai, Ramesh Prasad Adhikari, Bhishma Karki, Niranjan Parajuli, Ram Prasad Sharma, Govinda Prasad Dhungana, and Ranjit Kumar Shah from TU; Sanjiv Kumar Sharma and Suman Rijal from BPKIHS; and Arun Bhakta Shrestha and Philip Wester from ICIMOD.
Other recognized scientists include Dr. Niranjan Koirala (NAST), Shiva Prasad Pudasaini (Institute of Complex Flows), Meghnath Dhimal (NHRC), and Chhabilal Ranabhat (Global Centre for Research and Development).
The list also names researchers from diverse institutions such as Kathmandu University, Gandaki University, CIMMYT, Transcultural Psychosocial Organization Nepal, and Biotechnology Society of Nepal, among others.
Dhakal emphasized that this recognition reflects the growing global standing of Nepali scientists and their contributions to advancing research, technology, and innovation worldwide.
