58 Nepali Youths Rescued from Captivity in India Handed Over to Authorities

Kathmandu: A total of 58 Nepali youths, who were taken to India under false promises of employment and later held hostage, have been rescued. Of them, 23 were rescued from Rudrapur and 35 from Kashipur in the Udham Singh Nagar district of Uttarakhand, India.

The rescue operation was a joint effort by the civil society organization ‘Kin Nepal/Kin India,’ the Embassy of Nepal in India, Nepal Police, and Indian police. According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sagar Bohara of the District Police Office, Kanchanpur, the rescued youths were brought back to Nepal via the Gaddachauki border point.

Following reports that the youths were being held captive in residences in Rudrapur and Kashipur, immediate action was taken by security agencies and civil society organizations from both countries.

DSP Bohara stated that an investigation is underway to identify and take action against those responsible for luring and deceiving the youths with false job promises.

Among the rescued, 11 youths are from Kailali and Doti districts of Sudurpaschim Province, while the rest are from various districts including Chitwan, Sunsari, Panchthar, Taplejung, Tehrathum, Dang, Banke, Syangja, Dhading, Kaski, Sarlahi, Rukum, Baglung, Ilam, and Rupandehi.
