Achievements Are the Result of Collective Efforts of Nepal and Nepalis: Ambassador Tumbahangphe

Kathmandu: Nepali Ambassador to the Republic of Korea, Dr. Shivamaya Tumbahangphe, has made public the major achievements of her one-year tenure, highlighting progress in Nepal–Korea relations, migrant worker welfare, education, investment promotion and public diplomacy.

Ambassador Tumbahangphe formally assumed office on January 7, 2025. During the period, she held meetings with the President and Prime Minister of South Korea and discussed key bilateral issues. She also met heads of diplomatic missions from India, China, Bangladesh, Japan and Myanmar in Korea to exchange views on cooperation and best practices.

The Ambassador engaged with the Korea–Nepal Parliamentary Friendship Group and members of the National Assembly to discuss parliamentary cooperation and experience-sharing. She also held interactions with Nepali professors and students in Korea, addressing academic issues and student welfare. According to the Embassy, the number of Nepali students in Korea reached 15,599 as of November 30, 2025.

During her tenure, the Embassy coordinated with remittance companies, non-resident Nepalis, and Korean investors, focusing on sectors such as hydropower, transportation, agriculture, rail infrastructure and smart cities. Discussions were also held with the Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL) on developing Nepal’s rail sector.

The Embassy provided extensive labor and consular services, assisting workers facing legal, health and employment issues. It facilitated compensation for families of deceased workers, verified labor contracts, supported workers affected by industrial accidents, and provided psychosocial counseling and awareness programs across Korea.

Cultural and promotional activities, including Nepal Day 2025, the Multicultural Festival 2025, and tourism promotion programs, were also organized. Over the past year, the Embassy delivered services to more than 19,000 people.

Ambassador Tumbahangphe said she has consistently worked for the welfare, safety and dignity of Nepalis in Korea. “The achievements made during this period are not individual; they are the result of the collective efforts of Nepal and Nepalis,” she said, adding that efforts to further strengthen Nepal–Korea relations would continue.
