Kathmandu: Amb. Dr. Sarmila Parajuli Dhakal, President of the International Relations & Global Diplomacy Dialogue (IRGDD), Ambassadors Club Nepal, The Diplomat Nepal, and the Diplomatic Academy Nepal (DAN), paid a courtesy call on Mr. Pranav Kumar Gupta, Resident Representative of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Nepal, to exchange views on Nepal’s economic outlook, institutional strengthening, and opportunities for collaboration.
Welcoming Amb. Dr. Parajuli Dhakal, Mr. Gupta appreciated the contributions of IRGDD and its sister institutions in promoting research, policy dialogue, Track 1.5 diplomacy, and constructive engagement among policymakers, the diplomatic community, development partners, academia, and the private sector. He acknowledged the role such platforms play in fostering informed discussions on national and global issues.
The discussion underscored the importance of strong economic institutions, sound public financial management, transparency, accountability, and good governance as essential foundations for sustainable and inclusive economic growth. Both sides also expressed optimism regarding Nepal’s economic future and noted the new Government’s commitment to advancing key reform initiatives. They expressed confidence that the continued willingness to implement these reforms would strengthen institutional credibility, reinforce investor confidence, and contribute to Nepal’s long-term economic development.
Amb. Dr. Parajuli Dhakal commended the IMF’s longstanding partnership with Nepal and its significant contribution to strengthening macroeconomic stability, economic resilience, and institutional reforms. She also acknowledged the IMF’s timely support during the COVID-19 pandemic, noting its important role in assisting Nepal and many other countries in navigating unprecedented economic challenges.
Highlighting Nepal’s immense potential, Amb. Dr. Parajuli Dhakal emphasized that continued reforms, strengthened institutions, and a stable policy environment would further position Nepal as an attractive destination for investment, tourism, innovation, and technology-driven growth. She reaffirmed IRGDD’s commitment to advancing evidence-based research, policy advocacy, strategic dialogue, Track 1.5 diplomacy, and professional capacity-building initiatives through training, knowledge-sharing, and international cooperation in support of Nepal’s sustainable development.
The meeting concluded with both sides expressing their shared commitment to continued dialogue and cooperation in promoting stronger institutions, good governance, knowledge exchange, and sustainable economic development for Nepal.
