Ambassador Oli Meets Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs of Thailand

Kathmandu: Dhan Bahadur Oli, Ambassador of Nepal to the Kingdom of Thailand, paid a courtesy call on Eksiri Pintaruchi, Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs of Thailand on November 5.

At the beginning of the meeting, Ambassador Oli conveyed his heartfelt condolences on the passing of the Queen Mother of Thailand. He informed that the situation in Nepal has returned to normal, with tourism, trade, and other daily activities operating regularly.

The Ambassador highlighted the Government of Nepal’s priorities, including reconstruction of damaged infrastructure, strengthening the rule of law, and improving public service delivery. He also noted that preparations are underway to hold general elections on March 5, 2026, with international observers invited to monitor the process.

Ambassador Oli expressed appreciation to the Thai Government for its assistance in facilitating the safe repatriation of Nepali nationals rescued from Myanmar, Cambodia, and Laos. He also sought continued cooperation in addressing issues of human trafficking, smuggling, and online scams affecting Nepali citizens.

Both sides discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation, including the implementation of existing agreements and the possibility of signing a new Agreement on Agricultural Cooperation. They also agreed to hold the next meeting of the Bilateral Consultation Mechanism (BCM) at a mutually convenient date.

The meeting was attended by Urasa Mongkolnavin, Director-General of the Department of South Asian, Middle East, and African Affairs, other senior Thai officials, and Moti Bahadur Shrees, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of Nepal.
