Kathmandu: At the High Level Meeting of the General Assembly on the Midterm Review of the New Urban Agenda, themed “Delivering Sustainable Urbanization for All,” Ambassador Lok Bahadur Thapa, Permanent Representative of Nepal to the UN, highlighted Nepal’s urban policy frameworks, which prioritize inclusive, people-centered, and whole-of-government approaches to planned urbanization, safer housing, inclusive management of informal settlements, and greener public spaces despite deepening climate shocks and persistent institutional, financial, and infrastructure constraints.
He called for strengthened global cooperation and partnerships through scaled-up concessional and climate finance, technology transfer, capacity-building support, digital innovation, fiscal decentralization, greater investment in climate-resilient cities, and affordable housing for all, in alignment with national development priorities.
