Kathmandu: The Ambassadors’ Club Nepal (ACN), in collaboration with the International Relations and Global Diplomacy Dialogue (IRGDD), had the distinct honour of welcoming H.E. Mr. Mohamed Maliki, Non-Resident Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco to Nepal, during a high-level courtesy visit to its headquarters in Bishalnagar, Kathmandu.
The Moroccan delegation included Ms. Megha Chaudhary, Honorary Consul General of the Kingdom of Morocco to Nepal; Mr. Mohamed Rakhi, First Secretary at the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco in New Delhi; and Mr. Raj Kumar Adhikari, Administrative Officer.
In recognition of his distinguished diplomatic service and his steadfast commitment to advancing the cordial and longstanding friendship between Nepal and the Kingdom of Morocco, Amb. Dr. Sarmila Parajuli Dhakal, President of Ambassadors’ Club Nepal and IRGDD, had the privilege of conferring the Honorary Membership of Ambassadors’ Club Nepal upon H.E. Ambassador Mohamed Maliki.
Presenting the Honorary Membership Certificate and Club Pin, Amb. Dr. Sarmila remarked that the recognition symbolises far more than institutional affiliation. It reflects a shared commitment to dialogue, friendship, mutual respect, and international cooperation. She noted that Ambassador Maliki’s leadership and dedication to strengthening bilateral relations have made him a valued friend of Nepal and a respected member of the Club’s growing global diplomatic family.
On behalf of Ambassadors’ Club Nepal and IRGDD, Amb. Dr. Sarmila extended her heartfelt congratulations to His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Ambassador Maliki, and the people of Morocco on the auspicious occasion of Throne Day, expressing her sincere appreciation for the gracious invitation to the National Day celebrations and the warm hospitality extended to the Nepalese delegation.
Welcoming the distinguished guests, she described the visit as a meaningful affirmation of the enduring friendship between Nepal and Morocco, emphasizing that diplomacy is ultimately about cultivating trust, understanding, and lasting partnerships between people as much as between nations.
Introducing the institutions, Amb. Dr. Sarmila highlighted Ambassadors’ Club Nepal as Nepal’s leading Track 1.5 diplomatic platform, bringing together ambassadors, honorary consuls, parliamentarians, government officials, business leaders, academics, development partners, and distinguished personalities to foster dialogue, friendship, and international cooperation. She further presented IRGDD as an independent policy institute committed to advancing diplomacy through research, strategic dialogue, economic diplomacy, and evidence-based policy engagement.
Although geographically separated, she observed that Nepal and Morocco share common aspirations rooted in peace, resilience, cultural diversity, sustainable development, and constructive multilateral engagement. She expressed confidence that the bilateral relationship possesses immense untapped potential in trade, investment, tourism, agriculture, renewable energy, education, research, and innovation.
Highlighting Morocco’s remarkable global achievements, Amb. Dr. Sarmila commended the Kingdom’s international leadership in phosphate resources and fertilizer production, describing Morocco as an inspiring example of how strategic management of natural resources can contribute significantly to global food security and sustainable development. She welcomed enhanced cooperation in fertilizer research, agricultural innovation, technology transfer, responsible investment, and private-sector collaboration, noting that such partnerships could contribute meaningfully to Nepal’s agricultural transformation and long-term food security.
Reflecting on her own diplomatic journey, Amb. Dr. Sarmila shared that Morocco has always occupied a special place in her professional life. During her tenure as Ambassador of Nepal to Oman and subsequently Spain, she had the privilege of developing enduring friendships with several distinguished Moroccan diplomats. Those relationships, she remarked, reinforced her conviction that while diplomacy is conducted through institutions, it flourishes through trust, mutual respect, and genuine human connection.
Accepting the Honorary Membership, H.E. Ambassador Mohamed Maliki expressed his sincere gratitude for the recognition and the warm welcome accorded to him by Ambassadors’ Club Nepal and IRGDD. He described the honour as a reflection of the growing friendship between the peoples of Morocco and Nepal and reaffirmed his commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations across diverse sectors.
Ambassador Maliki spoke passionately about Morocco’s rich historical and cultural legacy, highlighting its longstanding contributions to education, science, medicine, astronomy, navigation, and intercultural dialogue. He reflected on the enduring legacy of the ancient university in Fez as one of the world’s oldest continuously operating centres of higher learning and underscored Morocco’s role as a bridge connecting Africa, Europe, and the Arab world.
Emphasizing the essence of diplomacy, Ambassador Maliki remarked that every individual travelling beyond national borders becomes an ambassador of his or her own country. He observed that genuine diplomacy is built through everyday interactions that foster friendship, respect, and understanding among people.
He also acknowledged the invaluable contribution of Honorary Consul General Ms. Megha Chaudhary in promoting Nepal–Morocco relations and expressed his appreciation for the collaborative efforts of Ambassadors’ Club Nepal and IRGDD in creating an inclusive platform that brings together the diplomatic community, policymakers, business leaders, and civil society.
As a gesture of friendship and intellectual exchange, Ambassador Maliki presented Amb. Dr. Sarmila with his book, What if… Why Not? In return, Amb. Dr. Sarmila presented him with a commemorative token and officially welcomed him into the distinguished community of Honorary Members of Ambassadors’ Club Nepal.
The meeting concluded with productive discussions on expanding cooperation in diplomacy, trade and investment, tourism, agriculture, fertilizer research, education, renewable energy, culture, and policy dialogue. Both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening institutional partnerships and advancing people-to-people ties.
The conferment of Honorary Membership upon Ambassador Maliki further reflects the vision of Ambassadors’ Club Nepal and IRGDD to serve as Nepal’s premier diplomatic hub—bringing together global leaders, fostering meaningful partnerships, and promoting dialogue that contributes to peace, sustainable development, and international understanding.
