Kathmandu: The American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) Nepal, in partnership with the U.S. Embassy in Nepal and the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Commercial Service, organized a webinar on U.S.-Nepal Commercial Opportunities in the ICT Sector.
The session brought together nearly 100 CEOs and professionals from Nepal’s ICT sector, including representatives from AmCham, CNI, FNCCI, and NASIT. Likewise, the participants explored trade and investment prospects in cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, data centers, and other emerging technologies.
The webinar brought in key speakers, including Mark Templer, Political and Economic Chief at the U.S. Embassy, who praised Nepal’s innovation potential, citing examples such as drone technology for Mt. Everest clean-up and global animation studios based in Nepal. “Nepal is a potential growing market with immensely talented people,” he said.
Adesh Khadka, Joint Secretary at Nepal’s Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, presented the Digital Framework 2.0 and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to achieving Digital Decade goals through democratic values and free-market policies.
Additionally, AmCham Nepal member Dileep Agrawal, MD of WorldLink Communications, highlighted how American technology supports internet expansion in rural Nepal. “U.S. partnerships are crucial to our commercial growth,” he stated.
Officials from the International Trade Administration, EXIM Bank, and SelectUSA shared guidance on funding mechanisms and support tools to expand cross-border business. Brendan Cue of SelectUSA encouraged Nepali firms to join its global summit, while Xiobing Feng of the U.S. Commercial Service in New Delhi reaffirmed U.S. support for ICT collaboration.
The webinar also launched an ICT Country Report and received strong endorsements from private sector leaders. Mangesh Lal Shrestha, CEO of Moses, called it a “very powerful session unearthing growth opportunities in Nepal,” while Sachin Karanjit of Deerhold noted its role in bridging ecosystems.
Furthermore, Amir R. Thapa, the General Manager of AmCham Nepal, stated that this initiative follows a successful AmCham-led delegation visit to Washington, D.C. in March and complements past efforts such as Tech Peak Nepal at the Orlando SSOW Conference, and DFC-led funding orientation sessions in Kathmandu.
“These are excellent examples of commercial diplomacy led by AmCham Nepal,” said Thapa. “We are paving the pathway and showcasing Nepal’s potential through trade and investment to foster economic prosperity for both nations.”
