American Center Welcomes Washington College’s Assistant Professor Shrestha

Kathmandu: The American Center’s Get Inspired Speaker Series welcomed Dr. Suyog Shrestha, Assistant Professor of Physics at Washington College (Maryland) and a member of the ATLAS experiment team at CERN, for an engaging discussion on his remarkable journey from Sindhuli, Nepal, to the forefront of physics research.

The US Embassy Spokesperson, Frank Sellin, introduced Dr. Shrestha as a member of the ATLAS experiment team that helped confirm the existence of the Higgs Boson in 2012 and strengthened the Standard Model of particle physics.

Spokesperson Sellin welcomed Dr. Shrestha’s energetic efforts to translate the language of physics into Nepali, and to bring access to data, mentoring, and greater computing power to Nepal’s scientific community.  He noted Dr. Shrestha regularly visited the American Corner to chart his American education and launch his scientific career.

Through personal stories, physics demonstrations, and insights from his research, Dr. Shrestha inspired participants to pursue STEM, think critically, and turn curiosity into discovery. His story is a testament to what becomes possible when talent meets opportunity through American Spaces and American higher education excellence.

The Embassy stated that the hybrid session connected audiences across Nepal through the American Spaces network, deepening U.S.–Nepal educational and scientific partnerships.
