Kathmandu: Australia has welcomed the appointment of Sushila Karki as the interim Prime Minister of Nepal, calling it an important step towards resolving the challenges of the past week.
Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong, Senator for South Australia, said in a social media post that Australia continues to urge calm and restraint to ensure the transition to elections is peaceful, accountable, and inclusive. She reaffirmed that as a longstanding partner, Australia stands in support of the people of Nepal during this time.
