Kathmandu: The Australian Ambassador to Nepal, Leann Johnston, together with representatives from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), visited the Bhutanese refugee settlements, Beldangi, located in Jhapa, and Pathari in Morang.
The delegation was warmly welcomed by members of the Bhutanese community and settlement leaders. Chief District Officer of Jhapa, Gopal Kumar Adhikari, and Mayor of Damak Municipality, Ram Kumar Thapa, were also present during the visit.
Australia remains a key actor in the region’s protection landscape. Through its Refugee and Humanitarian Program, it contributes to international efforts to safeguard refugees, respond to global humanitarian needs, and provide specialist support.
