Kathmandu: Md. Shafiqur Rahman, Ambassador of Bangladesh to Nepal, visited the office of the Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC) at the official invitation of the organization. He held a productive meeting with NCC members, led by the Chamber’s Chairman, Kamlesh Kumar Agarwal.
The NCC, Nepal’s oldest chamber recently celebrating its 75th anniversary, welcomed the Ambassador and briefed him on its activities, initiatives, and ongoing efforts to promote trade and commerce. Chairman Agarwal highlighted key issues related to the current trade imbalance favoring Bangladesh and emphasized the need to explore new avenues for strengthening bilateral trade. Discussions focused on identifying ways to reduce existing barriers and enhance economic cooperation.
The Chairman also expressed optimism about the role of regional platforms such as SAARC, BBIN, and BIMSTEC in deepening cooperation and promoting people-to-people connectivity for mutual benefit.
His Excellency the Ambassador underlined the historic friendship between Bangladesh and Nepal and stressed the importance of collaboration in sectors such as agriculture, industry, and services, particularly food production, agri-business, fish processing, and food security. He further highlighted opportunities for joint ventures in energy and tourism, improved connectivity, and greater market access, noting the potential use of Bangladesh’s seaports for Nepali goods and Nepal’s hydropower resources for regional benefit.
Ambassador Rahman reaffirmed the Embassy’s commitment to act as a bridge between the business communities of both nations and to advocate for policies that foster stronger bilateral trade and economic ties. The meeting was also attended by the Embassy’s First Secretary (Trade Promotion and Culture).
