Bangladesh Embassy in Kathmandu Celebrates Victory Day 2025

Kathmandu: The Embassy of Bangladesh in Kathmandu hosted a colourful and festive program on Thursday to celebrate Victory Day 2025 with due solemnity and fervour.

The event was attended by the Secretary General of the SAARC Secretariat, Bangladeshi officials working at SAARC, expatriate Bangladeshis, officials from Biman Bangladesh Airlines Nepal Office, members of the Bangladesh community in Nepal, Nepali dignitaries and businesspersons, as well as players and officials of the visiting Bangladeshi women’s football club, Nasrin Sports Academy.

The program began with the hoisting of the national flag and the playing of the national anthem at the Embassy premises. A one-minute silence was observed in memory of the martyrs of the 1971 Liberation War, followed by special prayers for the departed souls of the martyrs of the Liberation War and the July–August 2024 mass uprising. Messages from Chief Adviser and Adviser for Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh were also read out.

A cultural segment featuring performances by students of a local art school in Kathmandu, along with Bangla and Nepali songs and dances, was a key highlight of the celebration. Nepali vocalist Ms. Saraswati Khatri of Sur Sudha Music Group also performed Bangla and Nepali songs.

Speaking on the occasion, SAARC Secretary General Ambassador Md. Golam Sarwar highlighted the significance of Victory Day and called for upholding the spirit of the Liberation War while working collectively towards building an inclusive and discrimination-free Bangladesh.

In his concluding remarks, Bangladesh Ambassador to Nepal, Md. Shafiqur Rahman, paid tribute to the martyrs of the 1971 Liberation War and the July mass uprising. He emphasized the need to realise the vision of a fair, just, corruption-free, and inclusive “Bangladesh 2.0” and urged expatriate Bangladeshis to contribute to nation-building from their respective positions.

The program concluded with a luncheon hosted in honor of the guests.
