Bangladesh Embassy in Kathmandu Observes ‘July Mass Uprising Day’ with Solemnity and Fervor

Kathmandu: Bangladesh Embassy in Kathmandu commemorated ‘July Mass Uprising Day’ on August 5, 2025 with solemnity and enthusiasm at its premises, honoring the historic struggle for democracy in Bangladesh.

Minister for Communication and Information Technology of Nepal, Prithvi Subba Gurung, attended the event as Guest of Honour, while Md. Golam Sarwar, Secretary General of SAARC, was present as the Special Guest. The program drew participation from former Nepali ambassadors to Bangladesh, members of civil society, prominent entrepreneurs, doctors, professionals, and representatives of the Bangladeshi community in Nepal. Officials from regional and international organizations including the SAARC Secretariat, ICIMOD, UNICEF, and others were also in attendance.

The event began with the national anthems of Nepal and Bangladesh, followed by a minute of silence in tribute to the martyrs of the 2007 Mass Uprising. Messages from the President and Chief Adviser of Bangladesh were read out, and a documentary titled “July Anirban” was screened.

In his remarks, Minister Gurung described the uprising as “a collective will of the people of Bangladesh for democracy,” and praised the youth for their leadership. He emphasized the strong and historic ties between Nepal and Bangladesh, highlighting cooperation in trade, investment, tourism, ICT, and people-to-people exchange.

Secretary-General Sarwar called the uprising an “unprecedented event” in Bangladesh’s history and paid homage to those who sacrificed their lives for the country’s political and economic freedom.

Bangladesh’s Ambassador to Nepal commended the courage of the youth, particularly Gen Z, for standing against authoritarianism. He acknowledged the contributions of expatriate Bangladeshis and urged all stakeholders to unite in supporting the interim government’s journey toward a democratic and prosperous Bangladesh.

The Embassy is organizing a series of programs throughout 2025 under the banner of “July Revival Ceremonies” to mark this significant chapter in Bangladesh’s democratic history.
