Kathmandu: Canada has welcomed the appointment of Sushila Karki as the first woman Prime Minister of Nepal.
In a statement, Canada said Nepal’s peaceful transition of power following last week’s tragic events is an important step toward free and fair elections. Canada also expressed readiness to support Nepal during this transition and to work with partners to strengthen democratic institutions and inclusive governance.
“Canada welcomes the appointment of Mrs. Sushila Karki as the interim and first woman Prime Minister of Nepal,” the statement read. “After last week’s tragic events, Nepal’s peaceful transition of power is an important step toward free and fair elections. We stand ready to support Nepal in this transition period and to work with our partners to strengthen democratic institutions and inclusive governance.”
