The Government of Nepal signed a carbon trade agreement with the international public-private partnership mechanism LEAF on November 9, 2022. Under this agreement, Nepal will receive payments for reducing carbon emissions through forest conservation between 2022 and 2026.

Kathmandu- A rights-based community awareness program has been launched under the LEAF (Lowering Emissions by Accelerating Forest Finance) initiative in 100 municipalities across Gandaki, Bagmati, and Lumbini provinces to reduce carbon emissions and promote local community rights.

The Government of Nepal signed a carbon trade agreement with the international public-private partnership mechanism LEAF on November 9, 2022. Under this agreement, Nepal will receive payments for reducing carbon emissions through forest conservation between 2022 and 2026.

This program aims to inform and raise awareness among community forest user groups, Indigenous peoples, and local communities about their rights and the benefits they can receive from carbon trading.

The program will run until April 2026, with a total budget of approximately 20 million NPR.
It is being implemented in partnership with RECOFTC Nepal (The Center for People and Forests), the Federation of Community Forest Users Nepal (FECOFUN), and the Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (NEFIN).
